I don' find any problem with the stem getting in the way, It is adjustable up 
or down as  is the angle of the lights. What I find handy is I can snap a light 
off the magnet to look for a hook or tool I might of dropped. I have swiped the 
magnet on the light over the floor to attract a hook that I could not see. A 
friend in our tying group makes these lights but I have no financial interest 
in them. If interested I can give you his E address.
