I seldom fish from the dock anymore. It is now overgrown with Coon Tail  water
grass . When the dam is shut down the grass is up to the surface with just a
few holes in it to cast to. It is not worth the effort to fish. In this case,
the dam was running two units that put the water level above the grass.
The area that is now all Coon Tail that years ago was all gravel. It was a
pleasure to fish off the dock. Now I can't wade anymore and my wife forbids me
to take the boat out alone so I don't get much fishing in, It is hard to find
someone at the moment I might want to go out.
My daughters family was here a few weeks ago so I had my Son In Law to go out
with me. We did get some good fishing in.
Joyce, I know you like to hear about new patterns so I will share the one that
was so hot a few weeks ago while I was fishing with my SIL.
Hook sz 14
Tail, a few strands of Antron fibers very sparse.
Body. Pearl Green Mylar ribbon.
Hackle, Ginger hen. Some I got from Denny
We had been fishing for an hour with no hits using several different flies.
Decided to come in because we know the ladies would have something planned for
the afternoon.
Saw a pod of trout rising and decided to give it a try. Made a few casts and
nothing doing. Changed over to this fly and started hooking up right on the
first cast. It was almost a fish on each cast. I guess you know we were late
getting back to the house. I only had one like it in my box and offered it to
my SIL. He told me to just enjoy myself as I don't to get out too often. He did
try a few other flies that came close to what I was using but did not have the
results I was having.

Sitting on my porch looking out the window at the river I noticed a large
number of rises around the dock. It was dead calm and the river was as smooth
as glass. This is not normal when they are releasing water from the dam. I
watched a while and then could not stand it any longer, I had to give it a try.
I keep a rod ready under the porch but I had a Froggie tied on the leader so I
had to change to a trout fly. This took me at least ten minuets as my eyesight
is not what it used to be. I tied on a sz 16 Green Mylar body Soft Hackle that
was a killer the last time I was on the river. Got down to the dock and made a
few casts, no takes. Then two boats came past my dock right through the feeding
lane. This put the trout down. Waited a bit and the rises started again. Made a
few more casts and still no takes. Switched over to a Brown Soft Hackle,
another ten minuets lost.
