Nice pics Nev

Wish we had some lakes like that, although if we id I expect they would be snatched up by a club or syndicate.

Subject: [VFB] White Lake parts 1 & 2 details

Fellow VFB'ers

Part 1

This was my 3rd annual trip to this particular lake in British Columbia, Canada where I get together with other anglers many of whom I met there for the first time. As you probably saw, the weather was very wild & wet the first week so I spent some of my time tying flies. You can see the Fred Bach overhead vise lights in the first pic. I'm not sure of the mayfly genus but could be Calibaetis as these are fairly common here.

Part 2

The lake is inhabited by painted turtles which are becoming endangered in BC. The small one was hatchling found on the gravel road. The eggs are laid by the female and do not hatch until the following year. I thought the turtle crossing was a joke but it is not, and many turtles adult and hatchlings are killed by passing vehicles. It is rather strange to be fishing the lakes gin clear waters and see a full sized turtle go past underwater. The dragonfly is a Gomphus and there was a shore migration and hatch the last few days that I was there, but I only caught one trout on a floating deer hair gomphus fished on a sunk line so that it fishes just above the bottom.
