Oh my, I am envious. I loved my fishing time in New Zealand. My main fly was the Hare and Copper. It is kind of like the Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear. I caught a lot of fish with it. I did not fish but maybe an hour around Rotorua. A couple of small streams that entered the lake. I fished the Tongariro with really good success and a number of rivers on the South Island. I would suggest that you contact a local fly shop and get current information. If you are taking your own equipment be ready to spend time being "sanitized" It took half a day for me to clear my equipment and pay the fees. Hope you have fun. I would go back in a heart beat.
