Tied some lively legz nymphs this afternoon. By "some" I mean 2. But in
all fairness I was chatting with my son the whole while and he tied with
me, also lively legz nymphs, also 2 of them, and we made 2 batches of
rabbit fur dubbing using a coffee grinder method, and he willingly spent
about 2 hours helping to clean up the tying room a bit (it needs another
couple full days worth of cleaning... but we made a dent on it), so I
can't knock it one bit. I found my 6 packs of various shades of whiting
tailing packs / coq de leon, which I couldn't for the life of me locate up
until today, so that made me thrilled. If I make it to the International
Fly Tying Symposium in New Jersey this next weekend, I hope to pick up some
more CDL tailing packs - I may have 6 packs, but the quantity of remaining
feathers in those 6 packs is next to nil, and I use them all of the time
for tails on my dries.
Anyhow, all in all it was a great tying session.

Haven’t made a post for several years but continue to lurk.
I’ve been doing a lot of indicator fishing in still-water and have been
experimenting with small leach patterns using ultra light jig hooks. Not just
the fancy fly hooks designed for use with slotted tungsten beads, but
traditional jig hooks used by gear fisherman, in the ultra-light sizes; 1/64 oz
- 1/124 oz. They are typically hooks in size 8 through 10 standard length (at
least the hooks I’ve found locally) and I’ve been using rabbit fur for the
tails an ice dub for the body. I’ll also simply tie them like a wooly bugger
(chili-pepper style)
Sometimes I’ll add a brightly colored bead in the mix, and will attach a
traditional fly as a dropper (maybe a size 16 BHPT, or a similar chironomid. I
think they hang better from an indicator, and impart a lot of motion to the
dropper.
In the past I’ve been using a bugger pattern as an attractor, but have caught
most of the fish on the smaller dropper. With the micro-jigs the catches are
50-50.
