No copper bead when tied on a loop eye salmon hook. I rib with copper wire and after tying in the rest of the hackle, do multiple copper wire windings making, in effect, the "copper bead" weight with the copper wire, rather like the old fashioned copper head "Prince"..before we had beads for heads. It gives the weight to get it down a bit and helps it undulate in the current. I also tend to put a wrap or two of lead under the thorax just behind the head to help the bug get down.  Try them..you will like them. I've caught bass- large and small mouth, stripers, salmon, pike and walleye and a catfish all on Tony's chili pepper. Great fly. Joyce
