Hey Gary,

the Doc Spratley is a heck of a stillwater pattern. I tie it almost
identical to Dean's pattern, but I use grizzly hackle for the tail and fine
silver wire for the ribbing. Use twice as much silver wire as you need and
tie in both ends at the tail to form a loop, then use your dubbing spinner
or whip finish tool (or bent paperclip) and hook the loop. Spin it until it
forms a single tight, twisted wire. This is stronger and flashier than a
single wire without being overly flashy. Then use that to rib the fly.
