LaFontaine has contributed above and beyond the call of fly fishing duty. Though I don't pretend to know him personally, it has always been a pleasure to meet him at Marriott's every November until recently. I believe the last time was maybe two years ago when I wanted to buy another of his books. He took the time to question me about the kind of fly fishing I did and recommended which book to buy. It was a good choice. BTW, the book was only $15 though I would've gladly bought another one for $40. My sense is that he has always been interested more in the individual fly fisher rather than his own business interest. A interesting man with a marvelous sense of humor. I miss seeing him at the shows and pray that God comforts him.
