Good questions...If you can afford various hooks I'd buy some of both the 37187 & the 3366 hooks...both are multi-use...yet each works better at certian applications. The 37187 is the Best stinger Hook out there...thought most shops sell Bass poppers & deerhair Bugs tyed on the Tiemco equal...I like the bend on the Mustad Stinger hooks much more...seems I don't miss takes as often as I do on the TMC hook, but that just might be me. the Stinger style hooks were originated for Surface Bugs/poppers, but will work well in Sub surface applications: Hare Pups< EelWorms,etc. The Mustad 3366 is the best Wetfly/subsurface hook available to the Bass angler, thought it isn't always that easy to find(Jann's Netcraft always has them in stock at the Lowest prices I've come across)..I guess it's because I cut my Bass teeth on Tom Nixon's "Fly tying & flyfishing for Bass & Panfish" that I'm in favor of ring eye hooks for my Bass flies.. You can tye Bass deerhair Bugs & build Poppers on 3366 hooks..they'll set so ewhat lower in the surface, but you do not compromise hooking ability at all... And since the 3366 comes in sizes ranging from monsterous 3/0s to little #12s...you've got an entire range in which to work with. I'd also recommend any 4xl or 5xl streamer hooks..once again if I can get them Ring eye, that's what I'll use... I hope this helps..oh yeah, word of advice..don't tye just big #2 & larger Bass flies, you'd be amazed at how often a smaller #6 to #10 of the same pattern gets the biggest bass of the day...Food for thought..
