There are 3 holes on the jaw.  Which allow you to position the hook
correctly as follows:

Top  #2 to 4/0
Mid  #16 to 2
Bot  #28 to 16

all of this is covered in the instruction sheet for the vise.  Incorrect
positioning can & most likely will damage your vise.  When the hook is
mounted the jaws should be parallel.  When adjusted correctly a small hook
let's say #16 should be held tight enough by just the small top screw to tie
on.  Which is great you can just pop the hook in and pull it out when you
are done.  Large hooks may take 3 or 4 turns of the large bottom screw to be
held tightly.  I tie a full range of sizes form a #32 to a 4/0.
