John I have been using a board with screws as I work on a pattern that works
for me. I have just started making my own in the past couple of months. I
have been using the patterns from the Micro pattern book & nylon sewing
thread of different dia. I like the nylon because, I fish alot of small
flys on light tippets, the nylon when furled has alot of strength & just
the right amount of stretch to absorb alot of shock. The largest fish I
have landed on one of my leaders was a 30 pound plus hen King Salmon. I use
the 2 hooks to twist the 2 runs into a single rope. Than I let the head
rotate the ropes back on itself which furls the leader. The Conair runs
about $25 here & has 2 hooks. The IGIA, the TV one, costs about the same
but has 3 hooks.
