Del, Know exactly how you feel.  TAZ was 16 when I had to put her down a couple of weeks ago.  One of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Buried her at the ranch.  Made a little Tombstone to mark her grave.  It was also very rough on my  5  kids.  They all grew up with her.
