Now back to what I tied last night. It's so simple and looks like it might catch fish. Use whatever colors you prefer.
Quickie Caddis-
1- Put a standard #16 dry fly hook in your vice and wrap the thread (I used dark green) on your hook back to the bend.
2- Leave it back there while you slide a section of midge larva lace (I used light green) over the eye of the hook. Cut off above eye when the forward part is 3/4 back and slide to bend and it will clear the eye fine.
3- Palmer wrap thread forward to make segmentation and tie in a wing of snowshoe hares foot downwing style. Make a head (or you could trim the hare-hair Troth style) and tie off.
Done, just hare and larva-lace. Almost as simple as that thread and hook fly Tony brags about. <g> You might want to add some clear polish over the thread to make the rib durable but as easy as these are to tie, why bother?
You could add a tail before adding the body, stack the wing upright and tie a parachute if you wanted a mayfly instead of a caddis but that defeats the simplicity of this pattern.
