What you probably saw was a Sage SPL center axis rod.  Sage hasnow discontinued the SPL series in favor of the new SLT.  They do offer a center axis model in the new series.  A lot of folks don't like it for aesthetic reason primarily but Sage claims it does have advantages over traditional rod and reels.  Anyway, the price reduction was due to the annual model change ritual - some models are discontinued or modified so they can sell "new stuff".  Sometimes you can pickup some pretty good deals - I recently bought a Sage SPL 363-3 for half price.

was at the flyshop today and a sage rod caught my eye it was intresting because there was no reel seat the reel was just part of the rod. does anyone know what i'm talking bout ? what would be the advantege of this ? it was bout $800 knocked down to $400 not sure if that means they couldn't sell it or what. thks for any info
