I'm with you in the scavenging..here are some other things that work well from a hospital/surgical center environment"
The light sheet foam that is wrapped around the OR light handles is the same stuff that costs $1.59 for 1/2 a sheet at the fly shop..great for Poudre river midge wings.  There are 8 every morning we set up.
The clear plastic irrigation bags that are used for knee scopes..cut in fine strips with an Olfa cutter and wound are a great substitute for larva lace..free and can be colored wonderfully to any color with a permanent marker.
Tyvek..on every IV set and the backing to many of the OR supplies, such as suction tubes, heavy from suction tubes used for steelhead goose biots, light weight for Prince nymph tails. Haven't use a goose biot/duck biot in ages.
Magnetic sharps counting boxes or flat sheets..great for hook holding, both on the tying bench and the actual boxes work just great as fly boxes..foam on one side, magnet on the other.
Cataract boxes..used for holding small items in your tying room.
Iris scissors, needleholders, Kellys that have jaws that are just not good enough for surgery and too pricey for repair are great for the tackle vest or the tying table.
Like you, I scavenge with a good heart. Joyce
