Jimmy, now you have a choice to make, as there are many pontoon craft on the
market.

I wasn't as interested in 'packing in' (bad back) as I was in sturdiness
(Wyoming rivers), so I bought a Vesa-vessel from Outdoor Engineering
(actually an 'anniversary present ' from my lovely bride about 5 years ago).
It's one of the heaviest pontoons on the market, but it's also bullet-proof.
The only thing I've added is a seat-swivel ($10) from K-Mart to allow me to
twist to access the strorage bags on the rear deck. The frame is very beefy
for white-water rafting and it has a very good oar system. You are more
exposed to the wind as you sit up high, so make sure you have an anchor and
a spare. I carry a couple of rock-bags on the rivers, no harm in losing the
contents if they snag. My boat has a good one-handed ratchet anchoring
system like a drift boat, so that is convenient. If $$$ is a big factor,
this one is not the way to go, as there are many on the market at half the
price. I'm intending to add a trolling motor and battery this summer, and
the frame is built to accomodate it, plus it has attachments for a
fishfinder. All the comforts of home, eh?

Just some thoughts. Looking forward to getting my back fixed finally so I
can get out and enjoy it again. Good excuse, that rowing excercise, to get
out more often.
