I have always used 4 or 6 pound mono fishing for walleye. There teeth are not as sharp as a pike. The one thing I have notice with walleye is if they get any slack they are gone. One of the largest pike I have ever caught was on 4 pound mono while fishing for mono. 36" and 15 pounds.
