Hi everyone. I'm relatively new to this board. I've been "lurking" for
some time reading everything I have time for and discovered there are some
really great people here with a ton of knowledge. This is a great place to
find all kinds of interesting discussions (fly fishing or not).

I have a dilemma that I just know you all can help me with:
I'm headed to Loreto Mexico in June for Dorado and I need to purchase a new
rod. I keep getting conflicting advise on the size of rod to buy. Some say
a 9wt is fine - others say I need a minimum of 12wt. I do travel to Florida
a couple of times a year and I'd like to purchase a rod that would do both
bonefish in Florida AND Dorado in Mexico. A 12wt seems way to heavy for
bones. Any help here? Do I REALLY need a 12wt for Mexico?

Second, what brand should I consider?
I like Orvis. I like the company, the service and the products. However,
all this hype about St. Croix has got me confused. What's wrong with Orvis
Trident TLS rods and does St. Croix match Orvis warranty? I like to be
loyal to companies who stand behind their products. I know the Sage RPLXi
is the way to go - but the $600 price is pretty steep considering I'll only
fish it 4 times a year.

Thanks
Doug
