How do I find out about the Walleye Swap? Who to send the flies to, How
many, etc.
John, your information follows;
OK Folks,
I have decided to host my first swap, a "Walleye Swap". This is a chance
to help create new flies intended for one species, namely "Walleye", chances
are they will work for others as well.
Now from what I have learned so far, Walleye feed on Minnows, Leaches
and the like down deep. Bright colors, and combinations seam to work for the
folks using plastic's and such so minnow imitations like modified Clouser
Minnows, Light and Dark Spruces, and Lefty Deceivers seem to work. By
'modified,' I mean adding weight and varying the colors. By weight, I mean
under wrapping the body with extra lead and/or using larger, heavier
dumbbell eyes. And use a lot of chartreuse, bright blue, orange, yellow, and
white and in addition use a whole lot of tinsel and flashabou. A suggestion
is using a #1 or 2 or 3x long hook or whatever you decide. One suggestion
was tying with the hook up and dumbbell eyes down will make the flies
weedless.
The swap will be limited to 14 tiers, closing date to have the flies in
will be tentatively May 3rd. Now is your chance to help create a whole new
group of flies that all may enjoy. Who is interested ???
Please include a proper mailing container for your return flies as well as
appropriate postage to ensure the return postage.
