Which is why I sometimes throw a pitch to Byard's LinesEnd.com. Its a good
business, he makes a tiny profit, he offers free shipping and fast service
for quality products.
Kudos, Murf...
Byard has been a steady friend to all of us. When you think of the changes that go on with VFS, ie. loss of BB, loss of Fly Tying Contests, loss of Fly Swaps, etc. Byard has been there with us, assisting us in getting the services we really want. To assist Byard , by being a favo ed vendor is the least we can do. I hope that all of our listers understand that Byard supplies high quality fly tying materials at the best possible cost. He highlights each sale with a little bonus pack of new material. There is no where else you could acquire the quick and personal service that Byard provides. The VFB is supported through donations and Byard does not take advantage of this vehicle with incessant sales marketing.
I think that the blurb on "What not to buy from your Fly Shop" was not intended to be any slam on Byard or Line's End, but it probably is not apropos on this site. Most of the items suggested through Craft stores are certainly not of the quality to replace those items found in standard Fly Tying Materials. I find the thread interesting as I've gone to some of these craft stores for things like chennille. But the selection is certainly limited. The blurb does point out that some things can be more cheaply found within other sources. This point has been maintained by many of our listers. I'm constantly amazed how Joyce finds and utilizes common items to tie with. I suppose that the delicate facet of this blurb was that it pointed to Fly Shops, in general. As Byard's Lines End is one of these fly shop, it could bring up some consternation. This point has probably been overkilled ,as I am sure no one meant to slight Byard. But we probably should always realize on this list, that it is provided on the good grace of Byard and that we should consider this prior to crafting a response.
