Jimmy,
you are right. During the sign up period a swapmaster has to make noise on
the list in order to get participants involved. It could be observed on this
list. Swapmaster who put regular updates on the list with the roster of tyer
and their pattern were able to create a large list very fast. And
swapmaster, who posted only 2 or 3 short notes without the list of
participants very often were unable to get a full list. Best examples are
the big midge swap and Denis Bankers 1 and 2 swap.
What we do not need to have on the list are the short messages: Are my flies
in? Yes, received them!, no, will asked the clerk in the post shop....
What I like to see are 'final statements', e.g. The swap 'Orange Flies' is
finished, we came out with .... whatever. Recipes on the webpage... As the
swap was born on this list, it should be finished here on the list. It is
also good for the novice swappers to see how everything works.
