the flouro I use is actually stronger than mono of the same diameter.. but I 
agree most of the flouro on the market is brittle with poor knot strength..

I know that I have had much better success using it over mono.  You can use
it with high floating dries.  It is a bit denser than water so you have to
be careful dry flys.  Also it's strength is less than mono of the same dia.
