Who has a spider fly recipe (and technique) for
bluegill? Foam?
I just tied some Skip Morris "jigs" for doing
subsurface bluegill fly fishing. They are the funniest looking flies. I start
with orange thread and black lead eyes and then dub an orange synth. body. The
fly is then rotated 180 degrees so that hook-length red and yellow
plumes of marabou can be tied under the lead eyes. An orange thread head
completes the fly.
I'm still waiting to fish this fly. I imagine the
panfish will be turning on here in Western Pa. in the next few
weeks.

Glad the gills gods were good to you, wait until
they get selective and you finally figure out the only fly that will turn them
on. Gill are a great little fish when you get the plate size bullgill you will
understand. Thanks for the kind comments about my flies. The best part about
sharing flies is when they help make someones day. It's better than using them
to catch fish myself, I owe you. Dan Gober

Hi all,
Finally went out to try for some bluegill. I've
never fished for them on a flyrod before, I have talked to several of you in
the chat room about bluegills and Dan Gober even sent me some flies (they
work). We started out fishing for trout but noticed bluegill feeding. My
first was a little one about 3", finally we figured them out and landed
about 11 each. Most were about the size of my hand. We had a blast and will
definitely do it again.
Special thanks to Dan for the flies. I owe you
some still and will probably get them in the mail on Monday.
