You can go smaller than that, just last week, I had a 7 amp-hour 12 volt, rechargable battery in my hands that was about 3"x3"x5". I'm not quite sure of the brand or model, but they exist. Oh, and I plan to use one for my canoe once I get the depthfinder built up.
