Well, I survived.......
We spent the day down at Brantly Lake, Theresa, Amanda myself and 2 of
Amanda's friends, Lisa and Terra. We canoed out to the dam area and fished
the rip rap a bit, then worked our way down to the channel area and
anchored. I baited the girls up with worms and bobbers and got them started.
I spent the time with a sinking line and various Walleye concoctions. I
hooked and landed 4 "Small" Walleye, 10 to 12 inchers and one nice one hit
hard but threw the hook befor I could get it in, maybe 20 + inches, maybe
only 16 but it fought harder than the others by at least 10 times. The best
part was that Terra caught her very first fish, a little 12" Largemouth
Bass. The grin on her face went all the way around. We got pictures of her
with it for her family, course I did have to hold it for her, she just could
not bring herself to touch it, let alone hold it. Lisa and Amanda lost a lot
of worms but didn't pull anything in.
The worst part of the trip was the wind came up very unexpectedly and we
had a long trip back to camp. I had to paddle my buns off agenst the wind
and waves while not letting on to the girls that it was a bit serious. We
did make it back to camp safely and everyone was none the wiser. However I
do plan to watch a bit more closely next time for weather changes. I can
tell you that hard paddling really isn't good for a bad back, ( Mine is
killing me right now). I plan on sitting and relaxing tonight with my meds
so I can be in some shape tomorrow for the MRI.
All in all it was a great day, the girls had a great time swimming and
fishing, Terra is still chattering about her "Bass". Dad caught a few
Walleye and Theresa got to relax by the water and just enjoy herself. We
hope to go chase the fish at least a couple of times a month from now on,
depending how everything else goes. The break was much needed and well
received, now I can get back to the jobs that need attention and keep the
memories fresh for next time.

Have a good one my friends, and to those that have served to provide such a
day, I salute you with full Honors.

Your friend,
Petty Officer James H. " Jimi" Genzling, US Coast Guard, ( Medically
Retired)
