You can get a portable Fish Eagle at Walmart for $100. This is what I did 3 years ago. It is great for my canoe and trying out a new lake, pond, or river. Once you are familiar with the body of water - it is not as critical.
A word of advice is to secure the wire that connects at the transducer. I didn't and I got a fray there. There was nothing I could do except by a new tranducer - from which they hosed me - $50!!. Oh well. Live and learn. Now the wire is secured by about 4 inches above the transduce so if it frays, I can patch the wire myself. Thanks. I still need to test it, but if it works, it's yours for $30. That'll include shipping. it's several years old, but was the cadillac of the Hummingbird Line when I got it.
