Well, I just got off the phone with a very interesting call. One of Amanda's friends mom's helps out with a group known as Grammy's House. They are a battered woman shelter and work with abused and neglected kids. The administrator wanted to know if I would be interested in doing a couple of workshops for the kids. One on fishing and one on airplanes. He didn't have to twist my arm to much, and told me the whole program would be up to me, Amanda was coaching me from the sidelines. I already made a couple of phone calls and have most of it set up. Looks like I will do one workshop where they will build a rubber band powered plane, get to go to the university for a tour of the aviation department with a final "Graduation" day at the Artesia airport where my EAA pilots will fly them around on a "Young Eagles fly in" just for them. The second one will be a fishing workshop, think we will tie some easy flies for panfish, discuss ethics and C&R, then finish it up with a couple of trips to local lakes and rivers to do some "Casting Bobber" fly fishing. Still need to finalize the details as to when, where and such for the workshops but is sounds like a bunch of kids that need a break and some confidence building.
Guess I can't really say I was Railroaded, Most of you know all I need is an excuse to talk planes and fishing. Amanda has volunteered to help me with both workshops so I am in good hands. Just thought I would share that with my friends, it's nice to be wanted, sometimes by surprise. Sleep well my friends. Jimi
