Hi, for Grayling on the surface: Wallywings, Royal Trude, Madame X, Elk
hair Caddis, Mikulak Sedges, but when the sedge/stonefly drowns don't
stop fishing they hit on the drag/swing and on the hang. For subsurface:
small beadheads, Bitch Creek nymphs, Green Montana or black, Spiders/soft
hackles, they eat classic wet flies too. My 1.49 CDN.
We have a clave happening near the end of the month here in Alberta.
Maybe you all can stop in eh. Below is a note from Tom about the clave.
Calm days eh

TOM FRY WROTE:
I have put together a primitive web page at
http://members.shaw.ca/tfry/clave2002.html
to provide some basic information on the Clave, including a couple of
maps and some pictures from last year's adventure.
A few additional links will be added in coming weeks. The pictures on the
opening page may not open
properly if you are using Netscape; I think
I said this last time, but have yet to fix the page.
The ?th Annual Southern Alberta Clave will
be held somewhere in the week of July 15, 2002. We expect that most attendees
will be present from
approximately Wednesday, July 17 through Sunday,
July 21.
Location may change, but the default is that
it will be the same as last year, the Cataract Creek campsite in Kananaskis
Country. This is a 200-site
unserviced campground which accepts no reservations.
The web page contains a map, but the short version is that it is about
an hour west of Longview,
Alberta. This will serve as a useful base
for various day trips into the upper reaches of the Bow/ Highwood/ Elbow
and Oldman/ Crowsnest systems.
That revered Kiwi sage, Glenn Spackman, has
noted that much clave planning involves preparing food and/or drink designed
to incapacitate and/or
hospitalize the maximum number of other attendees.
Judging from the off-list chatter during the planning a few months back,
this will be no exception.
This is definitely NOT a stag event. We welcome
attendance from whatever female clavers can find the spot (we have a good
sign this year, honest!) and
several of the male attendees will be accompanied
by their wives and kids.

Hi,
At the end of July, I'm scheduled to go and bother a bunch of
rainbows and grayling in northern British Columbia (with an
occasional bull trout thrown in).
I would be very grateful if any of you with grayling experience could
offer recommendations on patterns that you've found productive for
grayling.
Thanks in advance for your comments,
Mark
