JIMMY,

Thanks for the update on the Scouts vs. PETA. I seem to recall you stating that the BSA wasn't gonna listen to anything PETA was trying to throw at them.  I've recently done a Backpacking presentation to the Local troop of Boy Scouts. It was alotta fun for an hour & a half. Those Scouts were asking all sorts of Questions & I answered them all. I think everyone had a great time.

I'm thinking about being a Merit Badge Counseller for the Flyfishing Merit badge.. I should contact the Scout Master of the local troop & get the details.

By the by, I got my Fishing Merit badge while at Summer camp back in 1974. I was at Cherry valley on Catalina Island... apparently this now a Girl Scout Summer camp...????? I loved gettint the Fishing Merit badge the most...

Remember this? Early this year, PETA claimed that they'd gotten the BSA
to withdraw its Fishing Merit Badge. That was a BOLD FACE LIE ! BSA
doesn't cave in to folks like PETA. Not only does BSA continue its
Fishing Merit Badge. Also, within the last year BSA introduced the new
Fly Fishing Merit Badge. I'd say that over 50% of the average
membership of 2 million Boy Scouts will take Fishing MB and/or Fly
Fishing MB sometime during their Scout tenure. I know that during my 36
years as a Scouting Professional, literally thousands of Scouts took
Fishing Merit Badge at the summer Scout camps I operated. Fishing was
number 3 after swimming and canoeing MB at camp.

There are several of us on the VFB & FFW lists who teach Fly Fishing MB.
If this is something you'd like to do to help further the outdoor
education of Scouts in your area, just call your local Scout Council and
volunteer your services as a Fishing or Fly Fishing MB Instructor. And,
you know, you can also teach other kids how to fish/fly fish too.

Cheers,

JIMMY
