My family and I are planning a quick trip to Seaside Park NJ, to stay with
some friends at their rented condo for a few days on the beach. It is just
one mile from Island Beach State Park. I'm taking a borrowed 10 wt, and a
few Clousers and Lefty's Deceivers, as I intend to sneak away from the
family one or two mornings or afternoons and try my hand at some surf
casting. I'm also going to bring ( gasp!) a spinning set up just for the
hell of it, and in case one of my buddies wants to come along. A quick
check of the fishing reports on a local shop's website (
www.bettyandnicks.com ) tells me that they're catching small blues and some
striped bass.

While its not going to be the utmost in fishing trips by any stretch, I hope
to make the most of a limited opportunity. As I look to you all as a source
of advice, any would be welcome.
