Hello southern neighbor!
The WI smallies are hot on #2 chartreuse and yellow Clouser minnows, divers, and Whitlock's sculpin and crayfish patterns. Fish holes and structure, banks and shade. The fish aren't picky, you should have a blast!
Cheers!

I'm heading out this weekend to try my luck once again at fooling a few
river smallmouth. I was hoping the list would be kind enough to offer a
little help on pattern selection and presentation. The river I'll be on
(the Kankakee near Joliet, IL, if anyone's familiar with it) is wide and
fairly shallow characterized by long riffles and fallen bridges between runs
and pools. I've given this a couple tries this summer in the Missouri
Ozarks with minimal success. Regardless of the outcome I'll enjoy the
experience, but wouldn't mind feeling something animate pulling in the
opposite direction.
Any advice to give me a little confidence boost is much appreciated.
Thx,
Kevin
