JIMMY,SHAY,Others....
All the Goldens i caught this trip where in small streams. I used my 7 1/2'-3wt. stick to basically just dap the mini pools & riffles one finds in these Streams. You have to tread so lightly as they are extremely spooky fish. But if you put them down, just wait 5 minutes & they come back out.
Any ol' attractor dryfly will work, my favorites being; Grey Ugly, Sierra Bright Dot, Yellow Humpy, Green & Orange Double Wings, Royal Wulff & Olive Elk Hair Caddis. There wasn't any Casting to do, as i was basically doing mini roll casts with only the tapered leader sticking out past the tip guide. Lotsa Willows & pines & firs to snag your fly. Very tight quarters to fish in.
We where going to hike to a high lake in the area we based camped at, but the day we were going to hike, the wind was blasting thru the lower reaches of the basin so we stayed lower down & were satisfied catching Rainbows & Brookies in the more sheltered Lower Lakes. if the wind is blowing good lower down YOU KNOW it's gonna be blasting thru the higher areas.
My biggest golden this trip was a fine 11 incher I pulled out of a mini pool that looked to small for this Monster...the stream was only 24 inches across, so that is a monster for such small water.
Anymore information needed??? Email me. Jimmy, you Have to come out here next Summer & let me drive you to your first Golden. My rules are simple: You must kiss your First Golden on the Forehead before releasing it... it will make the Golden trout Gods happy & they will let you catch many more Goldens...
