Is your friend travelling in on his own or is he staying at a lodge? Your friend will mostly be fishing deep. Boss Flies will allow him to get to the bottom. These are tied with bead chain eyes, a tail of calf or bucktail, a body of chenille ribbed with silver or gold tinsel and a wing of calf or bucktail. Some tiers put a hackle collar on after the wing . These should be tied in bright colours of oranges, reds, purples. Also black or black and white. A series of flies called Popsicles are popular and easy to tie. They consist of a hook with a tinsel or floss body and the front third of the fly is a collar of varying colours of marabou. Again these are tied in bright colours. These flies do not fish as deep but are still very affective. Two books by Trey Combs titled Steelhead Flyfishing and Steelhead Flyfishing and Flies will be a great asset to your friend.
