The only way to see whether the number of pieces affects the rod is to test 2 and multi piece rods of the same series side by side I think. If that's not possible you just have to decide whether you like what you feel. A friend let me cast his new 5 wt, 7 piece Redington Wayfarer last week, and I was impressed by the rod. I have not compared it to the 5 piece 5 wt though.
