In my last post, the fly I was referring to was a
mayfly pattern and the recipe follows:

the Jarvis Special
hook: Daiichi 1180 or 1182
thread: Gudebrod 8/0, color to suit
tail: stiff, spade hackle fibers
body: fine dry fly dubbing, color to match natural
wing: Antron yarn
hackle: cock hackle to match natural

I use grade 3 Hoffman, Metz or Spencer in that order
of preference. Some companies don't call them grade 3
anymore. Basically I use the least expensive, dry-fly
grade cock necks available.

I incorrectly assumed Del's dilemma was with mayflies,
which is why I offered the dressing instructions that
I did. I usually don't associate floatation problems
with caddis flies, hoppers, Stimmies, etc., because
the most prevalent winging material for those patterns
is deer or elk which has excellent floatation
characteristics compared to hackle and are
(theoretically) less likely to suffer submergence.
