The weight from the bend of the hook is well below the center of gravity therefore the hook rides in a manner so the bend is down regardless of the style of the eye. If however, you add weight to the top of the hook and change the center, the hook will flip and ride inverted (point up). > OK, guys and gals of the list. None of which I am aware. You could always tie any fly with a gut eye or snelled that is neither up, down or straight because it is specifically designed to allow movement. Tradition tells us to tie them with a certain style of iron but it is all very subjective, in my opinion. > What fishing situation calls for one or the other? Retreive (and pause) are affected by how hard or soft you pull (or don't pull) on the flyline. If you mean the degree of undulation of the fly in the water, I believe that is more dependant on where (on the hookshank) weight has been added that the type of eye. > How is hooking affected by the style of eye? It changes the hooking angle. So does shank length and style, another important factor. > How is material tied on streamers to assure either > hook up or hook down > retreive? The disposition of the hook in the water is dependent on where weight is added to the hook in relation to the center of gravity: on top makes it ride inverted and keeping it (the weight) low makes it ride in a standard manner. > DonO OK DonO, grade me then grill me.
