I agree with the comments I have seen so far about loop to loop connections.
They don't seem to affect my casting (as if I could tell the difference- the
fly is SUPPOSED to splash real loud on the back cast, right?.... :-)). They
do make it much easier to change leaders on the stream. In fact, I use loop
to loop to attach tippet to leader as well.

On thing I have found is that I tend to catch the tippet more IF I use
braded leaders, which I also like, along with the loops.

Finally, I've seen some that have relied on the shrink tubing to actually
secure the fly line to the loop connector. And those same folks have lost
the loop on occasion, especially in cold weather.

I ALWAYS use super glue to soak he connection when inserting the fly line
inside of the loop. I "snake" the fly line as far as I can up to the loop
and glue that connection. It makes the joint a bit stiffer, but I have yet
to lose a loop connection, even in the very cold, working for steelhead with
a 9wt rod.

Just my 2 cents.......

Subject: [VFB] New discussion?

How about we start a new discussion.

I have a question to ask about loop to loop connections.

I'd appreciate any suggestions/opinions that anyone can offer on their
effectiveness versus tying the leader directly to the fly line.

I'd also appreciate your thoughts on multi-tip fly lines and whether they
work as well as buying individual floating, intermediate and fast sink
lines.

I recently bought a Orvis wonderline that had a loop connection at the end
so you can use a loop to loop connection to tie your leader to the line -- I
can see the convenience in this, but having no experience at whether or not
it was effective, I just cut if off and tied my leader directly to the line.

I can also see the convenience in buying a multi-tip fly line -- you could
save tons of money on lines and extra spools.

However, I have a few questions...

Do loop to loop connections still allow proper mending of the fly line?

Do they affect casting ability?

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
