First, the narrow spool was a little different at
first, but so was holding my scissors while I tied
until I did it so much that it just became second
nature.

As for thread breakage, if it occurs on too regular of
a basis my first incliniation would be that you got a
bad ceramic tube in the bobbin. That happens from time
to time. Send it to Norlander and I'm certain the
problem will be taken care of immediatley. As a dealer
of the vise products, you can also contact me offlist
and I can help facilitate the fix.

Another thing, as Dave mentioned, wrapping the thread
around one of the "arms" of the bobbin helps to add a
little tension to the thread. However, if you have
rough hands it could lead to problems because your
skin might come into contact with the thread and
potentially weakening it by fraying the fibers. I have
stopped doing that little trick on spools with 8/0 or
Pearsalls for that reason.

As where commercial work is concerned, the amount of
time I save by tying with this system far outweighs
the time spent from what few breakages that occur from
time to time; even if I add the time spent spooling
the aluminum spools. I am certain I am not the only
one on the list that can attest to this.

Anyway, I hope this was of some help. Contact me
offlist if needed.
