Joyce-
I haven't bought trout type flies at retail for a
while, but from hanging out at the local shop and
poking around in the bins for ideas and stuff, I can
tell you that they retail around here for more than
twice the price you've mentioned. Most trout flies at
the local shop retail for $2.00 each, with a break on
multiples of a dozen. These are nicely tied flies, not
trash. Some are tied in-house, but most of the common
patterns are wholesale from outfits like Idylwild(sp?)
and Frontier. I think most of the shops in the area
are similarly priced $1.50-2.00 each. You can get them
cheaper (way cheaper) at places like GI Joe's,
Bi-Mart, etc, but the quality is in keeping with the
price.
Interesting thread, Joyce. I'd be interested in what
other people in the US and other countries pay, too.
