Okay Perps-
The deadline for signups has come and gone. There are
now officialy 63 tyers in the Perpetual Fly Box Swap.
Thanks to each and every one of you for signing up,
this is going to be a great swap.
I'm sending this to the list, due to the fact that I
lost some files, especially for the first 20 or 25
that signed up. If you have not sent me an email with
your mailing address since my last request on the
29th, please do so as soon as you can. Right now I
have 35 mailing addresses on file.
Thanks to everyone who has sent me ideas, suggestions
and tips, I appreciate all of them. Since this is my
first time out as a host I need all the help I can
get. Below is a quick rundown of how the swap is going
to work, as far as mailing the flies and so on. I
assume everyone knows by now how this swap works. If
you have any questions, please email me off the VFB
list.
Everyone needs to tie ten (10) trout flies, remember,
you do NOT need to tie as many flies as there are
tyers. If someone sends me 63 flies, I'm keeping the
extras! <VBG>. The flies can be any kind of trout fly
you want, dries, wets, streamers, terrestrials, your
choice, but no super easy flies like San Juan worms.
The first batch of flies you send should be all the
same, just like a regular swap.
I'm going to divide the swap into four groups. One
group will be all the non-US Perps. Even though this
group will be smaller (not sure how many yet, that's
why I need addresses from everyone), I figure by the
time the box goes from the US to Canada to the UK to
Europe to Australia and back, the boxes that stayed in
the US should have made it around their larger groups.
I may even mail the non-US box before the rest of them
go out. If everyone would use priority mail (2-3 day
delivery), it would really help. It's up to each
individual, but getting insurance would be a very,
very good idea. With that many flies, each box is
worth $300+ at retail, it would be a real shame to
lose one. The cost for insurance is not that much and
if everyone does it, it will be fair.
Deadline to have the flies to me is New Years Eve, Dec
31st. I will get the flies sorted, packaged and mailed
no later than the 15th of January. There will be 158
flies per box (actually 630 flies don't divide evenly,
but I will throw in a couple extra). I will have the
info on who is in what group posted on the website as
soon as I get addresses. The website is at:
<www.geocities.com/jodemior>
Everybody in the swap has a number from when they
joined up, Jimmy Moore is #1 (right, Jimmy?), I'm #38
(I think) and so on. Please use your list number to
toe tag your flies, both the first batch you send and
any flies you put in later. Just put your number and
the name of the fly on the toe tag. You can send the
recipe to me via email. I want to post all the flies
and recipes on the site, so people can go to it and
find out who tied what and how to tie it. I'm also
going to include small notebooks with each package for
people to sign, make comments (nice ones, okay?) and
so on, kind of a journal of the boxes' travels.
The final goal of the swap is to auction off the
flies, boxes and journals on the list and donate the
money to a worthy fishing or conservation related
cause. How we do that will be up to a vote of all the
Perps. Maybe we can retire one box at a time while the
others keep going. Maybe ending up with one box that
just keeps making the rounds, a real perpetual swap.
Didn't means this to be so long. Hope this works for
everyone. Email me if you have any questions. If
anyone wants to drop, please let me know as soon as
you can. Hoping everybody stays in.
