I'll recycle a fly by simply using a trusty(not Rusty) single edged Razor blade. I will insist that my tying students have a small box of 5 of them in their tying boxes.I tell them that they should be their worst critics about their tying abilities... Strip that fly off the hook if it doesn't look right to them... & tye it better the second time thru.

Careful you do not cut yourself with the "Minty Fresh" blade, that ain't a good thing.

Not talking about sticking old hooks in with the papers, cans, and bottles.
Does anyone have any methods for getting hooks back from flies that didnt
turn out like planned, or old flies that have caught so many fish that they
are unrecognizable? I've used the "cut everything away with a pair of
scissors that takes a good 30 minutes per fly" method, and was wondering if
anyone had any other methods. Thanks guys.
