Morning Del,
I think you sell yourself short. Believe me I am no dry fly expert, but
tips from Tony, Don O and others have sparked me to try, hence the swap, new
house, new bench, new challenge as to a fly type. With the tips I have
sorted through feathers, pulled ones that look like they will work for a
decent dry, put them into envelops and labeled, ( a hint I think from Don
O). I have some decent feathers where I can get some Biot, ( anther item I
had to have the list tell me what it was), and started working with recipes
that matched as closely as possible with materials I had on hand. Mind you I
have to get creative with some of the recipes but the end results are
improving.
I am no where near ready for extended body dries, I played with tying
one and it resembled something from my windshield instead of a quality fly.
I will experiment more with extended bodies later, I just wanted to try one
for now.
The swap idea was as much to challenge myself and gain examples of
others ability to use as reference. I decided on a "Home Grown" recipe using
what I have and duplicating an insect that I have seen down at the Battan
Lake. I started with 12's and am working down as I can tie each size cleanly
and have a hackle that works. That's another thing that the list explained
and made it so easy to visualize was choosing hackles. The swap folks will
get my best and I will be able to get feedback from them on mine as well as
having them as reference.
As I get more experience and get better hackles I will go smaller and
try new and challenging patterns. I don't expect to be world renown like
some on the list but do enjoy the challenge. So just sit back and experiment
my friend, your work is exceptional, I know, we done some swaps together,
dries will be a challenge but if you want tot do them they are doable with
your abilities.
Talk to you later my friend, I'm adding some new flies to your box and was
going to pull some but decided to leave them in and just add on. Amanda has
a few new ones that she is including and will get it off to you soon.
Looks like we will get some propane Wednesday so we will finely get to
move into "Our" house with "Our" dirt and "Our" bugs after 3 years of
piecing it together. Been a long time coming with so many setbacks but maybe
it's our turn now.

Have a good one my friend and give dries a try, I'm finding out that I
really enjoy them, and you are more than good enough to tie them.
Your Friend,
Jimi

I it wasn't dries, I would be in. I don't have the confidence for them to be
sent yet. I do have an awesome wet that I could send you though. I won't
join
the swap, but will send you one or two for your bench.
