I remember as a kid, ( 1950's) my dad bought some kapok-
insulated sleeping bags. They were supposed to be the
latest and greatest. The kapok was so fine and dusty that
it would make your throat itch for hours. Every time you
opened one of those bags the coughing and itching would
start all over again. My brother and I would get into a
fight over who would end up blowing up the air mattresses.
But Dad would make me do it because my brother would get
puffy irritated eyes (hay fever type irritation) when he got
too close to that blessed stuff.

Hi Rick,
Kapok is also used as a parachute post, or cut up and dyed,
as dubbing.
If you're interested you may try florists, because the
stuff is
sometimes used as decoration in dried flower pieces. I used
it for my
Klinkhammer posts, but gave it up in favor of Aero Dry
Wing.
If you want to try your hand at it I may be able to send
you some.
