This may help a little, too, when you tighten the loop, instead of pulling down on the farside of the hook (assuming you wrap the thread away from you), bring the bobbin around under the hook and pull straight up on your side of the hook. This equalizes the torque (or something like that) on the material you're tying down and helps minimize the tendency to spin on the shank.

Do two or three soft loops before you pinch and pull, so the feathers gather, rather than spin.DonO----- Original Message -----Sent: Saturday, December 21, 2002 8:25 PMSubject: [VFB] Downwing questionI have a question about downwings for wetflies.I've been tying some wetflies for cutthroat trout-- but I'm having a problem getting mine to look symetrical -- I do a soft loop -- but they still like to sit more on one side of the hook than the other.Any suggestions how to improve on this.I'm using turkey feathers to make the wings -- does anyone treat their feathers with flexament or something similar before cutting them into wings -- would this help? Thanks for your help.Ken MacGillivrayCoquitlam
