Thanks for the response. As I indicated, many an effective pattern 
has been devised which incorporates thransluscent antron. Gary's 
Diving Caddis but one of them, the Diving Baetis Spinner another. 
Both patterns feature a clear antron downwing.

In the latter case, the spinner crawling downrocks and plant stems 
(and often angler's waders<G>) trapped air for sure encases the 
insect making for a silvery sheen.

Fishing softhackles (originally North Country Spider) in the film can 
be a devastating technique, as you have also found out ;-)
