How does the st. croix pro. graphite compare to a higher end rod? Is there any $600 earth shattering difference? This reel feels really nice... any comments?
I went to my share of shows and cast a few rods. Seems we all like something different since the big names were my least favorite. I tend to like slow action tips. Guess I'm just a slow kinda guy. In order of preference my favorite blanks are; Pacific Bay, Lamiglass and Signature HM. My Orvis rods are okay and my Loomis GL works fine for the heavy stuff. I'm into cheap reels for trout as they are just line winders but I do like my battenkill for steelies. One issue on cheap reels is that they do tend to break on big fish though.
