Bob...oh BOBbb....
I thought if I sent you a #32 hook, you were going to tie me a fly on
it...eh?
I'm still waaaiiiiting..... ; ^ ) Oh, and your silk-roped flies are on
the way. Like that stuff!
Tom W. finally emailed me back. He's got 13 emails from me stacked in his
box. He's been tied up in business matters the last couple of weeks, and
short-handed with the holidays. To Bob, Dean, Del, Eddie, Debbie, and
everyone else waiting on me- he said Monday he'll personally see to my
order, so we should see some good stuff real soon.
I am trying to get a sample bag of winger capes sent to Byard, so you new
tiers of the Whiting have some awesome wings to put on those flies. I have
an extra Cock d' Leon saddle that I am going to send Byard. The C d'L
saddle hackles are for tailing fibers- stiff and gossamer, and some
speckled. Whiting sells tailing packs of these feathers. We'll figure out
how to get samples to all the co-op swappers, along with the wingers. A
winger cape at $15 is a good buy as the feathers are useable from top to
bottom for flies in the 10 to 22 range. Check out the samples when they
arrive. All of my swap flies have been very standard up-wing dry flies in
order to give newer ones a pattern for using the new materials.
For those who have not tried or mastered the rope-dub yet, check with Eddie.
We spent a little chat-time getting it ironed out and he really likes the
results he's gotten in his bodies. The swap-flies I've submitted are all
rope-dubbed. Once mastered, this is VERY fast and easy, and will dub
anything, but is especially well-suited to dubbing long-fibered dubbings.
I have an MPEG video of the actual dry-fly roping portion, now. It is just
over a meg in size. Need a helper to assist me in forwarding it to those
who want it. Volunteers?
If any of you guys/gals see Kim Boal ( Chat Room - 'Damselfly' ) at a show,
tell her congrats. She's the newest member of the Whiting Pro Team.
The ekklektik Whiting batch may be more ekklektik than you ever dreamed
of... ;^ )
'nuff said,
plucker of the very rare,
DonO

However, if you ever see Gold Mustad 32's anywhere- grab them for me and
don't let Byard know.
I have a pack of Mustad 32s in my drawer but even the pack is small.
Actually, they are in a wax envelope which is inside a tiny box. Hans sent
a few to some accomplished tyers some time ago and many experienced breaking
the hook before finishing the fly. Hans can direct you to his web page of
the few that made it. With my big hands I stop at a 26 or 28.
