The Whiting Co-op Swaps are both through taking participants as of I think
Jan 2. What they are/were is as follows: The swaps were basically
dividing up Whiting Saddles between participants who paid a set price per
group. Basically 12 members sign up for each group and pay Byard, the list
host and owner of Linesend, depending upon the group they signed up for.
Byard then purchased 6 Whiting saddles (bronze for the first swap and
silver for the second swap with some midge saddles mixed in for several
groups). He sent one saddle to each of six people who volunteered to be
pluckers. The pluckers then plucked all of the dry fly quality feathers
from the saddle and then evenly divided the feathers into 12 groups. The
plucker then sent the 12 packages back to Byard who then sent each of the
12 participants per group one package of each color (6 total packages).
These packages each had more feathers than a Whiting 100 pack. I think in
the first swap with the Bronze saddles the cost was $24 per group for 6
different packages of dry fly saddle feathers so it was quite a good deal
for everyone involved. Sorry you missed the swaps but as popular as they
have been I am sure it will come around again.

OK, I'll bite. As a member of this elite and, no doubt, illustrious
group, what must one do? With a little free time on my hands, I just may
be able to be a "plucker". But, being new to this, I'm not exactly sure
how this works... Are there benefits to being part of this "privilaged
group"? Am I too late to join in? Let me know.
