Hey everyone. I've got a question about putting together some extended
bodied flies. I've never actually dealt with these anymore, and as I get
ready to begin tying, I realized that I've got no idea how the hackle
length is to be determined. The "official" pattern calls for a size 10
hook, but the hook only supports somewhere around 2/3 of the body. Should
hackle length be based on the size 10 hook, on the size of hook that would
be necessary to tie the pattern without the extension (without going 1xl,
2xl, etc) or on some entirely different measurement?
