In Canada ice on the rod guides is a common winter problem. To solve the problem I carry a flask of wisky when the guids ice up pour a drop on the guides and a larger portion for myself. Repeat as neseccary. When the flask is empty return to the camper. If you plan on fishing all day you may need two flasks. Mel
